Charitable Deeds and Services of Knox is currently seeking donations for their Twelth annual utility campaign. The charity helps people in Clarion, Venango and Forrest counties with a wide variety of services, including utility bills and other bills.
“There’s only a few things that we don’t help with; we do not help with rent, phone bills, fines, internet, cable or TV,” said John Kerle, president of the organization.
Last year, the organization raised $135,000 in their utility drive and helped people more than 4,000 times. This year, due to an increased demand in their services, the organization is hoping to raise even more money.
“Last year, we helped over 4,000 times; this year, the way that it’s going, we’re going to [help] over 5,000 times,” Kerle said.
He explained that the organization records each time someone comes in to receive help.
“Some family might come in here to get monetary donations; they might come back and get free furniture or free clothing. Every time that they get something it’s recorded,” Kerle said.
The campaign will kick off with a fundraiser spaghetti dinner held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on November 15 at the Wolf’s Den Restaurant in Knox.
Families in need are often referred to the center via their church, other charitable organizations or word-of-mouth.
Kerle explained that the application process is quick and easy. Those in need simply make an appointment to stop in and fill out some paperwork.
“We take all the income that comes into their household and take all the expenses,” Kerle said.
“If there expenses are more than their income, we can help them,” he added.
So get out there on November 15, enjoy some delicious spaghetti at the Wolf’s Den Restaurant, and support a good cause.
